| Bio: | Character Name: Marvolo Gaunt Age/Birthdate: Returned to 30/Born: July 26, 1870 Wand: 13", oak, unicorn tail hair Bloodline: Pure-blood--descended from Salazar Slytherin and the Peverells. Why this character: You asked me to, woman! lol What is said about your character on the lexicon? If you changed canon facts, what did you change? It didn't say anything more than I already knew and have included in the profile. I haven't changed any canon facts, but I have made up that which hasn't been answered. Look at the available/taken list and put which characters (at least ten names) that your character would interact or be familiar with: Merope Gaunt, Morfin Gaunt, Sally Slytherin, Characters that he might interact with but doesn't necessarily know/like: Tom Marvolo Riddle, Tom Riddle Sr., Any pure-blood Death Eaters PB: Jim Carrey Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual. He'd find it rather disgraceful to be anything other. Personality: Marvolo is not a people person to say the least. He doesn't care to socialize and rarely does so. Descended from the Peverells, and more importantly, Salazar Slytherin, he feels this automatically makes him above all others, not even feeling the need to physically present himself with refinery so long as he has his precious heirlooms to proudly display in people's faces--sometimes literally. He also has the ability to speak Parseltongue, something he loves to do in front of others as he can proudly boast of his Slytherin lineage. He almost always speaks in Parseltongue when only subjected to the presence of his daughter and son, making his English vocabulary lack. Being a proud pure-blood wizard and detesting Muggles has made Marvolo a rather lazy man. He's under the impression any physical labor is the "Muggle way" of going about business and prefers doing everything he can with magic. This has led him to constantly look rather unkempt. His features already obscure from the high amount of inbreeding from his family before him, Marvolo's inability to so much as regularly clean himself has left him looking worse for the wear. His home looked just as terrible, overrun with overgrowth and exuding a terrible smell as he didn't feel the need to clean. When Merope was old enough to obey him, he'd force her to clean, all the while following her around and abusing her either verbally or physically if she used a rag to wipe off a table instead of using her wand. From the high amounts of inbreeding, Marvolo's ability to think is highly irrational. He finds himself frequently angry. This, mixed with the fact he was raised to believe he was better than others--even pure-bloods--due to his Slytherin ancestry, leads him to treat most rudely. He has no fear telling people off no matter what the consequences. Although he typically avoids speaking with Muggles altogether, if he has to encounter one, he doesn't hesitate to tell him how filthy he thinks they are or even hex them, no matter what wizarding law dictates. Any suggestions against him or his beliefs sets Marvolo in a fiery rage, who either remains ignorant to the repercussions or doesn't care. When Marvolo meets a pure-blood, who assures him they're not a blood traitor, he will let whatever kind side he has shine through. Even in these cases, he does have a tendency to come off inadvertently rude due to his ignorance of proper etiquette. While Marvolo can read, he can barely do so. He typically avoids it when he can, ignoring owls when they come his way. Family: Medusa Gaunt: His first cousin and wife who was relatively kind, even though she genetically suffered the same inbreeding as Marvolo. She died upon delivery of Merope. Morfin Gaunt: Marvolo's son and eldest child. Marvolo always loved him best as he mimicked his beliefs in every sence. He never stopped him from mistreating his younger sister as he felt she deserved it for acting like a squib. Merope Gaunt: Marvolo's daughter. Marvolo never found himself particularly fond of her. Since his wife died after delivering her, he blamed Merope for her death and never treated her well. He regarded her as more of a servant than a family member and abused her when she expressed signs that were either Squib-like or Muggle-like. Personal History: As a child, Marvolo was raised with his noble heritage burned into his head. His father, Melanchthon Gaunt, possesed the same proud nature, yet little to show for it, that he would pass on to his son. His mother, Mimis, a more quiet and kind woman, was always displayed like an object by his father, subject to abuse from Melanchthon's antagonizing behavior and regarded as nothing more than a maid and vessel in which to produce children with. As Marvolo's only other sibling was a brother, Maximus, Melanchthon proudly boasted how he only produced males, leading Marvolo to believe disrespecting women was the norm. Growing up in the same House of Gaunt he'd live in in his older years, Marvolo spent the first eleven years of his life doing just about whatever he pleased. He was never sent to a public school with those filthy Muggle children, so he would have to learn to read from his mother--something he never became proficient at. His schooling only started when he was accepted at Hogwarts and was sorted, predictably, into Slytherin. Being physically disfigured from the generations of inbreeding, Marvolo was the subject of many points, giggles and stares, but such things didn't bother Marvolo. He was of direct Slytherin heritage, after all, and he proudly triumphed in his announcements every chance he got. Whether the children didn't believe him or didn't care was unclear, but the proclamations weren't enough to make them stop. While he was by no means the top of his class, he did excell in Defense Against the Dark Arts. This was probably due to the fact that it was the only class that really caught his interest. He got a hold of basic charms and other magic, but firing jinxes was his specialty, and in his commonly rage-filled attitude, he began using that skill to hex those that made fun of his unsightly appearance and unbecoming mannerisms. It became excessive to the point the teachers considered expelling him. Although Marvolo wasn't typically one to regard the consequences of his actions, he certainly didn't want to get his wand taken from him permanently either, forcing him to live the life of magic-free Muggle scum, so he used what little self-restraint he had to desist his actions, at least until he was seventeen. The family fortune long since squandered from existence, Marvolo had to work when he left Hogwarts. Having no exceptional skills besides hexing--and certainly not mentally stable enough for Ministry jobs that required such skills--Marvolo worked in a bookshop in Knocturn Alley, doing remedial jobs such as cleaning. Due to his poor customer service skills, he quickly got put on the night shift where he wouldn't have to interact with people, but as he couldn't keep his hands away from the company's money storage, he lost his job and had to resume a life with his parents. Mimis Gaunt became very ill in Marvolo's twenties. Melanchthon Gaunt didn't have the money to take her to St. Mungo's (nor did he care to as they were letting Mudbloods be healers, and he didn't want their filthy hands touching her). Marvolo remembered that for her sickly state, she didn't appear to be all that upset about it, and he found her body with a smile on her face. Melanchthon didn't have a service, opting to bury her in the garden then he, Marvolo and Maximus went about their daily lives as normal. Maximus not having suffered nearly as severe physical ailments as his brother, found himself a pure-blood wife long before Marvolo had. It wouldn't be until he reached his thirties that he'd be paired to Medusa, his first cousin. Both their parents cared so strongly about the bloodline continuing that they cared little if they were blood related, which showed as most of Marvolo's older family members were related both through blood and marriage. But with Maximus unable to produce a child, Melanchthon relied heavily on Marvolo. Marvolo did love Medusa or as much as his twisted mind could; whether his twisted little mind could truly fathom love will forever remain a mystery. It wasn't clear whether he had a true desire to be with her or was simply glad there was a woman in the world that would actually have him, but he did treat her with more respect than his own father treated his mother. The three of them all lived in the Gaunt Shack until Melanchthon passed away before Marvolo's first son, Morfin, was born. He definitely did love his son, instilling the same beliefs and same pride of being Slytherin's heir that his father had him. Watching his son grow brought a pride inside Marvolo that nothing had ever before. Some five years later, Merope would be born. Marvolo shared the same views as his father about St. Mungo's, so both births were done at home, on their own bed. Due to extensive tearing, Medusa bled far more than was normal. While this could've been simply fixed by a Healer or a more competent wizard, the damage was beyond Marvolo's knowledge, and he refused to OWL for help, when it meant she could possibly be placed in the hands of Mudblood healers, so Medusa died unnecessarily. Not the paternal sort, the fact that Merope survived her first year was a miracle in of itself. He remembered how Medusa took care of Morphin, kind of, so he'd change her diaper every few days, and he stole milk from Muggle shops, though he usually had Morphin feed her when he wanted, "It to just shut up!" Marvolo couldn't stand her crying, and even though Morfin was only five years old, he probably played a much larger part in her survival than Marvolo did. Marvolo would often look down in the muck-ridden cradle with a sneer, as if it was Merope's fault that Medusa had died. Where Morfin actually showed great care for his little sister in her infancy, as she grew into a toddler, his attraction to her became perverse, subjecting her to cruel and humiliating torments simply for his amusement, even going as far as to let snakes bite her. Marvolo paid this behavior no mind, proud that his son showed "such strength," as he liked to put it. As Merope grew, Marvolo regarded her as nothing more than a servant, forcing her to take care of all the basic house duties as he didn't care to do them, much less take care of himself. Morfin actually was sent to Hogwarts, but as the years went by, more laws were instated for the rights of Muggles and Mudbloods, much to Marvolo's dismay, so he pulled Morfin from Hogwarts before he finished and never let Merope attend, not wanting to support a system of Mudbloods and blood traitors. Instead, Marvolo gave her his late wife's wand, assuming she'd learn on her own. The House of Gaunt was long since paid for and in Marvolo's needs, so they only really needed finances for food, but that was solved as they obtained food from the vegetable patch. The Gaunt family always appeared far too thin, like the flesh was literally hanging from their bones, as Marvolo didn't bother didn't bother to tend to it. Once Merope was old enough, she started doing so of her own accord, allowing them to eat a little more healthily than they had before. Never having cared to memorize his daughter's date of birth, Marvolo hardly acknowledged it, anyway. The only time he did was on Merope's fifteenth birthday, where he presented her with a gold locket: a family heirloom and once belonging to Salazar Slytherin himself. Merope was female, so as far as Marvolo was concerned, she could only produce a child of blood and not name, so he considered Morfin of higher value in accord. But she was his flesh, and he wanted it known, so he gave her the locket so he could continue to brag of his lineage, even long after his death. Marvolo couldn't find a single female that would have him, family member or otherwise, and Marvolo searched perilously for one. Marvolo didn't quite understand that his son's appearance and behavior were frightening to most women, assuming they would want him shearly for the fact he was descended from Slytherin. But as no woman would willingly take Morfin, he did find a suitor for Merope. Sirius Black volunteered his son, Arcturus, wanting to also produce an heir, but as Sirius and Marvolo became more acquainted, Sirius commented that he found their way of life appalling, leaving Marvolo's temper to flare, calling him nasty things like "Mudblood lover" and "blood traitor". Sirius immediately withdrew his son from the engagement, but that didn't stop Marvolo. His son was in need of a wife; his daughter was in need of a husband, so he arranged for their marriage. Morfin seemed only delighted by the news. Merope did not, but Marvolo didn't care so long as they could produce an heir. Completely oblivious to the fact his daughter had grown an attraction to a Muggle man in the nearby village of Little Hangleton, Marvolo only learned the day an official from the Ministry came to summon Morfin for a hearing regarding a hex on said Muggle. Marvolo wasn't impressed. He wasn't a clever man, so rather than trying to lie or cover-up the truth, he angrily shouted how the man deserved it, shoving his heirlooms in the official's face. In the middle of this argument, the Muggle went riding by in his carriage and Morfin revealed how Merope truly felt about him, sending Marvolo into a rage like he never had before. If the official hadn't Incarcerated him, he surely would have choked his daughter to death. The official returned with many others within fifteen minutes after Morfin tried and failed at attacking him. Both Morfin and Marvolo were taken to Azkaban. In his age, Marvolo couldn't handle the power of the Dementors, leaving him with the most depressing of thoughts of his wife's death and the children making fun of him in school. He couldn't bring himself to fight it, and they declined what little physical and mental health he had left. When Marvolo returned home, he expected to find Merope waiting and ready to serve him. He was quite surprised to find his home in an abandoned state, with only a note regarding Merope's whereabouts. From the note, he learned she had eloped the Muggle and wasn't coming back. The news brought him such a shock and such anger, he no longer regarded her as his daughter. Without her to take care of him and with his extraordinarily weak state upon returning from Azkaban, it didn't take very long for Marvolo to die. Who does your character support? He always supports magic, even if he is completely unaware that Voldemort is his grandson that would probably like nothing more than to kill him. | |||||||||
